Hello again Chris,
yet another great show. I just got back from my trip to Barcelona ( i wrote about it in a comment about Delft and the kerk iso kirk). It was wonderfull. spend some time there looking for old and new architecture and public spaces… (I’m almost done as a architectural student). Gaudi was great, the public spaces are wow…
I just listened to the show and it is great as allways. I’ve been there my self in 2003 during my 4 months stay in Venice and 1 month in Padua. I had a great time in Italy in general and Venice… it’s my love. I could stay there for years, really wow! Great buildings, lovely plazas, amazing art and food from heaven. During my stay there we also went to 5terra. We spend some days in Riomaggiore where we rented a home just above the harbour. I loved it. We went there by car and parked it in a parking garage in the higher part of the town. So i was a bit surprised to hear you say that you can’t reach it by car. The story i was told is that in the old days you only could reach 5 terra by boat or walking over land. But nowadays you could reach it as well by car, but i’m not sure all the towns are reachable by car. At least riomaggiore was in 2003 when i was there. By the way I was complaining about your dutch last time… I proberly will make a lot of mistakes in my writing english… so sorry about that.

My family were in Vernazza just before you got there and enjoyed the lead up to the festival of their patron Saint (Santa Margherita di Antiochia). You crammed a lot into your day but to really experience the Cinque Terre you do need to stay a while and slow down. As Rick Steves says, it is a holiday from your vacation.
