The Amateur Traveler talks to Jason and Janie about their recent trip to Barbados. Learn about life among the locals: a revival, a cricket match, a local dance competition, rum shacks and where the locals go to the beach. Hear about their adventures (sometimes hair raising) in this relaxed tropical paradise. Find out why the only time George Washington went over seas he came to this tiny island in the eastern Caribbean.

Excellent stories!
My girlfriend and I have recently decided to take a trip to Barbados, and I’ve having a heck of a time finding the perfect spot to stay. Listening to the podcast it sounded like Jason did alright and found something for himself and Janie – I was wondering if they’d be willing to lend some advice via email or phone? I’ve been doing a ton of research online and every place that looks perfect is either too expensive or in a less then ideal location.
We’re basically looking for the same experience theh had – the wuldlife preserve, beaches, maybe a cricket game, bur wirh s one horseback riding and internet access thrown in
it looks like the island is pretty east to get around once you are there, but finding that perfect “home base” is proving difficult.
Any help would be most welcome

It would be good to hear from Charles, to know if he did make the trip. I believe the most ideal place to find a good Barbados hotel for your home base would be the St. Lawrence Gap area.
If the accommodation in the Gap is still a bit expensive some of the guesthouses along the Maxell area may be more ideal.
This is still on the South Coast and in close proximity to the nightlife action… getting to the other areas of interest like the wildlife reserve and the Cave will be quiet easy.
I realised that this query was since 2007 but maybe it will help someone else looking for that perfect paradise get-away.
