Since then I have studied Turkish, Russian, Mandarin, Swahili and Greek. Sometimes they get a bit muddled.

Thanks, I knew my Italian was rusty. Is pronounced "Cor neel ya" with the accent on the second syllable.
The Italian "gli" is as difficult for English speakers as the English "th" is for Italian and French speakers.
I still can't do it quite right, but if I say it quickly, the Italians pretend not to notice.
Beautiful country - great if you're a mountain goat :-)
As for Portofino - try it in late September - still crowded, but at least you can get a parking space. I remember the electronic signs on the road leading there saying that you were "X" minutes away and being very glad that it wasn't the heart of the tourist season.

Corniglia.<br
