Leave your kids with grandma or other relative, if you really want to travel. Taking them with you won’t make them good, neither the plane passengers 😐

Nice episode! It’s nice to hear some good travel tips with kids other than just “don’t bring them.” I don’t have kids yet and this made me much less scared about having kids and traveling… many people just tell you your traveling life is over for the next several years. I’ve already recommended to a couple friends with kids (who are scared to travel with their kids) and the Debbie’s website. Chris- how come this episode (and 141) don’t show up on the episode’s page? I wanted to send a link for a friend without an ipod/itunes to listen… Tx, Becky

They did not show up because I do that manually and have been out of town the last two weekends and had not gotten around to it yet. I have them there now. Thanks for the reminder.

I think those are some great tips from the Amateur Traveler, but I must agree with Journeyetc, traveling without kids sometimes is the true vacation!

I think kids should be taken at trips by their parents. But at the age, when they start understating every thing.

While I agree with some of the comments here on your podcast, yes, couples need to get out and about without their kids once in a while. However, we need to expose our kids to the wonders that the world offers.

My wife and I travel once a year without the kids. The rest of the year we take them with us wherever we go. With six kids and a Suburban we travel quite well and have a lot of fun.

I don’t remember recommending couples travel without their kids. We rarely did. Why would you want to?

great article, I like it! It made me remember great fun that my family had last month during our trip to Estonia, when visiting Fixman playground with my daughters and jumping running all around those nice climbing elements, one of my brightest holiday memories…

Our “kids” are no longer small enough to be a travel issue. However, for what it’s worth to those who take small kids on road trips, here is something that worked for us. Research your route using Google earth or maps. Find nice public parks with real playgrounds in close proximity to your route. You might find that a nice park is only a 10 minute drive from the highway. To me this is worth it to let the kids get some real exercise. Pin these along your route. Make it a point to stop at some of these along the way and do not just rely on highway rest stops.
