Volunteering in Tijuana – Photo Friday
by Chris Christensen Add commentscategories: mexico, photography

I posted a video early this week to the Amateur Traveler site of my recent volunteer trip to Tijuana with Esperanza International. This photo is from an earlier trip also building houses in Mexico. The group I am with has formed a bucket brigade and is lift buckets of cement up a 15 foot drop to the job site at the top of the scaffolding on the right.
At the bottom right you see a woman in a hat and blouse much to fancy for this work. We “worked” along side another group on this day that was from La Jolla. They were in a bit over their head with this kind of work. They mostly lifted the empty buckets.
The bandana is not a fashion statement. When you sweat doing this sort of work (and you do) it keeps the cement dust from getting into your eyes. That stings.
