Venice, Italy – The Bridge of Sighs – Photo Friday

The bridge of sighs is a well known Venice landmark. This is the bridge that the prisoners crossed between the palace of the Doge and the courts on the right to the prison on the left. The name comes from the sighs that the prisoners made as they got the last view of Venice… at least for a while. One thing that I liked about this photograph was the contrast in color. For some reason all the color in this scene is in the left hand side of the photograph. The contrast is greater because of the bright cloudy sky in the background.

I have a shot of the bridge of sighs from the other side – where you can see all the people in the background. I like this shot because it is an angle I haven’t seen before. And I love that burst of red in the banner at left!

It is a really wonderful photo with the contrast in color and gray. You can just make out all the people crowded on the bridge, too.

I loved the burst of red with that banner as well. I have a shot from a department store in Paris that also had a nice border that was a big red banner… maybe next week.
