Cathedral Gazing - Cambridge, England

Who says that your subject has to be at the center of your picture. I loved this picture of my lovely wife sitting looking at a church in Cambridge England. It was a beautiful day to explore the university and the green area of the “backs”. We had been walking around for a while and were just taking a break. As I recall my daughter and our friend Susan were exploring a teddy bear shop across the street. What I like about this shot (shot with film on my old Minolta) is the depth and the balance of the shot. Take out Joan looking at it and it is just another picture of a church.

I agree–it adds a lot of dimension to an otherwise average photo.

This is a good picture, love the angle and scale and your right. Take out the human element and it’s just a dull picture.

It is a great shot. Nice composition – and shot with film, no less – always impressive these days.

great picture…I like the fact that you caught her looking at it instead of looking at you!

You’re right, there is a great balance to it and I love that the church looks soooooo long.

when I first went to Cambridge, I wanted to do all I can to go to this university. It’s like a fairy tale land!

Nice composition–and with your wife looking up, it sort of completes a circle in the photo formed by the lines of the building, the slope of the tower that kind of leads to the yellow sign, right by your wife–whose sight line sort of draws an invisible line to complete the circle and keep your eyes moving within the frame.

That’s a great composition. I think it has better impact than normal everything in the center type of picture. Great shot!
