Half way between Las Vegas and Zion Nation Park is this vista which I thought really captured the southwest. For those of you not familiar with the tree in the picture it is a joshua tree.

I like the barren feel to the image, almost like you’re the only one there besides the Joshua Tree.

I agree with Cate. It definitely seems like you are the only one there with nothing else but the Joshua Tree. It always strikes me as strange that something so green can be in that sea of dirt and sand.

Zion is one of the easiest day trips to take from Las Vegas, and I make the journey as often as I can. This photo made me smile. Thanks for sharing!

This is a beautiful shot. Would love to hear more about staying in the desert. Are there short hikes around there? Best time to visit? Festivals and such? I am having a hankering for some dessert scenery.

That really looks like something out of a 50s western

Lora, good question. I have done hikes at Zion and red rocks but not in between where this picture was taken.

If you want to explore more joshua tree, cactus, rock… with kids, Joshua Tree national park is a must go. Plan a two or three day trips there. You will feel relaxing and refreshing. Not to mention you can also get to Palm Spring and buy delicious dates there

Your Joshua tree photo is beautiful. I included it with a story I wrote for my blog: earth-rider.com In a credit line, I included “Amateur Traveler” and your name. Thanks for the great photo.
