Happy Communists – Berlin, Germany – Daily Photo
by Chris Christensen Add commentscategories: europe travel
This is a mural on a government building in Berlin that shows what communism was supposed to be like. Ironically, in front of this building is a memorial to the citizens who died in an uprising of 1953 in East Germany. The protests originally were seeking lower work quotas but later demanded the resignation of the government. The government responded by sending in tanks.
The building was the Luftwaffe headquarters in Nazi Germany and is now the Germany equivalent of the IRS.

The murals and statues always have great history behind them.

I liked this communist era statue which is near the government buildings in Skopje, Macedonia. The memorial marks the date, Nov. 13th, 1944, where the Independent State of Macedonia was disestablished by communists after WWII.

I was asking myself the same thing before posting it
. It’s hanging low on the “desperation” side of the statue.
