One of the many video cameras that caught my eye at the 2010 Consumer Electronic Show was the Kodak PlaySport HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera. This new camera from Kodak is a sport version of the popular Kodak pocket video cameras. The Playsport is waterproof for depths of up to 10 feet so you don’t have to worry about taking this camera out in the weather.
This camera is made to take with you on your adventures. For example, you can clip this camera to you while skiing with a carabineer and lanyard which attach to the ring on the bottom of the camera (it ships with a wrist stap but not a lanyard).
The camera shoots HD video (1920 × 1080p) at 30 fps and takes 5 MP still photos.
The sport model does lose some features from the top of the line kodak video camera which is the Kodak Zi8 HD Pocket Video Camera. The Zi8 has:
- a 2.5 inch LCD instead of the 2 inch on the Playsport
- an external microphone jack
- a pop-out USB jack (no cable needed)
But if you want a sport camera this one is a deal at $149.95. I payed over $400 a few years back for a less capable underwater camera.
The Playsport is available in April but is available for pre-order already. Order the Kodak Playsport.
