Fodor’s Guidebooks Gets a New Look – Win “Fodor’s Israel”

Fodor’s sent me a free copy of their Fodor’s Israel which is part of their new guide book series to review. Now frankly, Fodor’s guide books have never been my favorite, but they have been one of my wife’s favorites. My wife likes guidebooks like Fodor’s that have lots of text, and lots of information about where you should stay and where you should eat.

I am a visual person so I like guidebooks that have lots of pictures of places I should see. I always figure that where I will stay and where I should eat will work themselves out (sure, because my wife is worrying about that).

So that means when we travel places we have often in the past bot two different guide books. We bought the information packed one for Joan and the picture filled one for me. Fodor’s new guidebook looks like it was created just to help with our marital harmony as it now has many more pictures than in previous editions. I like the featured information sections like what to sea around the dead sea or in the wine region which combine maps and photos.

I like the new direction Fodor’s is taking and I think you will too, but you don’t have to take my word for it. How nice of you to give away your copy! I hope it helps someone plan a wonderful trip to Israel. Anyone else out there who doesn’t win the Fodor’s – you might find the Jerusalem Insider’s Guide a useful resource. Enjoy your travels!

Hi, totally agree with you Chris.I have Fodor’s old edition about Israel.It was very dificult for me to follow during my tour in Israel, no pictures at all, you have no idea what to expect. I usually buy the travel books with a lot of pictures and read the rest of the information through the internet

I am the traveler whom Chris interviewed twice on travel to Israel and Jerusalem specifically. I just note that my favorite commercial guide to Israel is still Frommer’s excellent guide by Robert Ullian. Now, it won’t make Chris happy — lots of text with few pictures — but it has far more hotel and restaurant information than Fodor’s. Other than that difference, however, the Fodor’s guide is is fine work.
