Last July the Travel Blog Exchange or TBEX, which is a collection of travel bloggers and podcasters had its first conference in Chicago and it was a wonderful opportunity to meet and network with other people facing some of the same challenges I am. I was able to pass along podcasting tips that I had learned in 4 years of podcasting, but I was also able to hear tips about how to work with PR agencies that I simply would not have thought of.
I recall Pam from Nerds Eye View talking on a panel discussion about how she wanted to do a road trip to Chicago from Seattle so she called up Sean Carroll at New Media Strategies who arranged for a sponsorship and a car by Volkswagen. I recall sitting there thinking “that would never even have occurred to me”. That, of course, is the whole point of networking.
So with the next TBEX conference a short two months away I am preparing. I don’t have my air plane ticket yet (I am still trying to figure out if I should do something else the week before or after) but I do have my new business cards (from Vistaprint) for both Amateur Traveler as well as for a new travel venture (stay tuned).
I have more Amateur Traveler shirts on order (I use Queensboro Shirt company).
Now all I need is to set up a road trip. ![]()

The image for your business cards didn’t show up for me, but I also need to order some TBEX business cards! Did you like Vistaprint?

Thanks, fixed the image. I do like them. They are pretty cheap and make good quality cards. I also have purchased postcards and a car magnet from them.

We are really looking forward to TBEX and to share some of our tips as well as gather those from others, for example your tip on buying promo shirts. Although we have biz cards (we used Vistaprint as well), we didn’t think about shirts. Great idea – thanks!
