This photo of an elephant from Lake Manyara in Tanzania is both an argument for the new large photo size on the Amateur Traveler as well as an argument for taking a camera with a good zoom lens on safari. I love the detail on the rough skin, the tusks and the eyes of the elephant.
If you have not been on a safari it is typical to take a lot of pictures standing up in the back of a Range Rover as was the case with this photo. With 5 people standing up there would be no room for a tripod so I used a lightweight inexpensive Monopod when I needed to steady the camera.

WOW What a great photo. I hope it was one heck of a zoom lens! I like the monopod tip. That will come in handy. Sounds like a good addition to my gear.

I agree with you…the detail is outstanding! I hope to go on a safari someday! Can you give more detail on the type of camera you used and the lens? Thanks!
