June’s photo contest on the Amateur Traveler
had the theme humor. Aglaée Jacob won the contest on the with this photo:
Aglaée says:
I was on my way to Merzouga from Marrakesh, as part of a tour (going to the Sahara for a camel trek and a night in the desert) and we stopped at the Dades Gorges for a few pictures and I saw these 2 men, looking like they were working really hard to get their car back in order! I couldn’t resist snapping a picture!”
Our Judge Ralph Velasco said:
“Although compositionally not an exceptional image, Aglaee’s submission of a broken down taxi in Morocco really gave me a sense of place, frustration, and certainly a chuckle. With regards to composition, it’s very heavy in the barren foreground, and although I don’t know what was up and to the left of the taxi, seems to me that the main subject would have been better off placed in the bottom right of the frame to take into account the ‘Rule’ of Thirds. That, or perhaps she could have moved in closer to the subject to fill the frame, either by zooming in, or better yet, physically getting closer to it.”
Aglaée won a copy of RALPH VELASCO On Travel Photography – 101 Tips for Developing Your Photographic Eye & More.
July’s contest theme is “Apply the Rule of Thirds (or have a good reason for breaking it!)”
