6 years ago last month during a Memorial Day picnic I had the idea for the Amateur Traveler podcast. Originally the show was going to be about my travel stories but it quickly changed into an interview show talking about your travel stories.
Some of the episodes stand out for me:
- Best example of hospitality: Travel to Iran by Bike – Episode 134
- Best Photography: Travel to Ethiopia – Episode 79
- Best Budget Tips:Pauline Frommer on Budget Travel – Episode 123
- Best Soundseeing:Tanzania, Africa as a guest – Episode 52
- Best Attitude:Travel to Siberia, Russia – (Mis)Adventure Travel – Episode 149
- Most Impressive Kids:Through Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail at 10 – Episode 135 andFamily on Bikes – Episode 214
- Best Video:Travel to Curaçao – Sailing and Snorkeling with the Bounty (part 2) – Video Episode 38
- Best Road trip:Travel to Iceland – Episode 204
I could not pick my favorite episode, can you?

Hi Chris: Listener for about 4 of your 6 years. The best podcasts, for me, are the ones I’m listening to during the month before we go somewhere– on the area we’re to visit. Right now I am listening to your British Isles-topic podcasts because we’re going to England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. You, and some of your compatriots who podcast travel are getting me in the spirit and mood for our trip, and giving me concrete ideas, as well as learning pronunciation, geography etc. I love you, also, on This Week in Travel. You folks just have me cracking up out loud as I walk on the beach daily for my exercise– and podcast listening!

Thanks Chris,
For keeping me dreaming of places I’ll probably never go. This is by far the most fun I’ve had belonging to a cult.
Seriuosly, It’s been a honor to be a guest 4 times. I’d like to thank you for providing this service to all of your listeners.
