Amateur Traveler - The Amateur Traveler is a travel show that helps you find the best places to travel to. It includes both a weekly audio podcast and a twice monthly video podcast. It also includes travel news and resources.
The Amateur Traveler talks to Eddie about the island of Dominica. Dominica was discovered by Columbus and he might still recognize this lush tropical mountainous island with some of the best scuba diving in the world.
The Amateur Traveler talks to Anthony Sandberg from the OCSC about the sport of sailing, sailing vacations and sailing in the Aegean. Learn about private beachs, pictureque fishing villages and how you can get involved in the sport of sailing.
Chris (The Amateur Traveler himself) talks about his recent themed cruise (Shakespeare at Sea / MacMania) on the Holland America ship the ms Vollendam to the Panama canal with stops at Half Moon Cay (private island), Aruba, Curaçao and Costa Rica.
The Amateur Traveler talks to Jason and Janie about their recent trip to Barbados. Learn about life among the locals: a revival, a cricket match, a local dance competition, rum shacks and where the locals go to the beach. Hear about their adventures (sometimes hair raising) in this relaxed tropical paradise. Find out why the only time George Washington went over seas he came to this tiny island in the eastern Caribbean.
I was wondering recently what was my favorite beach in the entire world. I thought about the pink beaches of Bermuda, black sand beaches in Hawaii, beaches covered with agates in Oregon, sailing off of Long Beach in southern California, etc. This was going to be hard to choose.
I finally decided that my favorite beach is a place called “The Baths” in Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. The Baths is a beautiful cove leading to turquoise waters dotted with sail boats. Lying on the beach or swiming or snorkeling in the water is a slice of paradise.
But half the fun of The Baths is getting there. Around the beach it looks like a giant was playing with marbes. There are boulders dropped everywhere and the path to the beach is an adventure. You walk, crouch, wade and climb through half submerged caves made by these boulders to get to the beach. Kids of all ages will love it.
My family and I visited the Baths on an excursion to Virgin Gorda from the Windjammer barefoot cruise that I talked about on an earlier episode of the podcast.
The Amateur traveler goes to the garden island of Kauai in Hawaii: rugged clifts, beaches, snorkeling, body surfing, guava, an “easy one mile family hike”, helicopter tour and Chris tripping over big Hawaiian words.
