Spanish Drummer Boy - Girona, Spain - Photo

This photo is of a drummer boy in Girona, Spain at a reenactment of the invasion of the French in the Napoleonic wars. Between the muskets and the canon the lad was completely justified in plugging his ears.

Why is the drummer boy covering his ears? Is there some fire crackers? He resembles the young Harry Potter!
