Travel to the Champagne Region of France – Episode 308

moet-chandon-champagne

The Amateur Traveler talks to well-known travel writer/editor Don George about his first visit to the Champagne region of France.

Despite having lived in France after college, Don had never visited the area made so famous by the blind monk Dom Perignon and his sparkling wine. Don discovered a beautiful agricultural area and learned the secret to a good life is one bottle of Champagne a day.

“Champagne happens to be a beautiful region in terms of the landscape but the bubbly beverage that it specializes in is also a huge attraction for me. I had heard that it had a beautiful countryside and I was stunned and astonished how unpopulated it was. Champagne has a lot of amazing architecture and amazing history. Reims was a big highlight for me and the cathedral at Reims where they have been crowning the kings of France going back to the seventh century.”

Hi Chris and Don,

This is an area of France I’ve visited many times. You are spot on with Troyes and Riems, truly wonderful towns.

I have added the link to show at The Travel Bloggers Guide to Champagne-Ardenne Region I’m developing. http://www.thedepartureboard.com/the-travel-bloggers-guide/europe/france/champagne-ardenne

As always looking forward to the next show.

Kind regards, Simon
