Buckingham Palace Guards - London, England - Daily Photo

The Grenadier Guards who guard Buckingham Palace have not always worn the traditional bearskin hats that they are known for. This tradition started after the Battle of Waterloo when they defeated Napolean’s Imperial Guard. The hat is a replica of the hats worn by the Imperial Guard. In 2005 they did start testing a hat made of artificial fur to try and keep bears from going the way of the Imperial Guard.
