Dexim was kind enough to send me one of their new Dexim DCA132-B P-Flip Foldable Power Docks to review. One of the things that had already caught my eye about this device as something that might be cool for travelers is the pictures I had seen of the iPhone (or iPof Touch) being used as a travel alarm plugged into the P-Flip running their free P-Flip clock app.
Charger
The main function of the P-Flip is to recharge your phone and it certainly does that providing a 2000 mAh Lithium Polymer Battery that:
- Provides up to 8hrs Talk time
- Adds 15hrs of Video
- Adds 15hrs of Game playing
- Adds 60hrs of Music
Drawbacks
The very design that makes it an interesting bed side alarm also means that this is not a device that will fit comfortably in your pocket while it recharges your phone. This dock is designed to be stood up on a desk or flat surface.
Trick
If you do want to use this as a clock radio as they show in the pictures then you do have to know how to keep your screen from going to sleep. To do that go to the Auto-Lock in your General Settings and change the time to Never (with thanks to @Allocentric). But don’t forget to change this setting back when you put it in your pocket to preserve your battery life.
Conclusion
I do think this can be a useful device for travelers and it will make its way into my backpack. I would not get this particular power dock if what you are looking for is extended talk time because you plan on holding the phone to your ear for 8 more hours. On the other hand… I would not recommend you spend all day on your trip on the phone anyway.
