La Sagrada Familia - Barcelona, Spain

This photo is one of the reasons that I like to carry a camera with a decent zoom lens. This is one of the two facades for the unfinished La Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona. This church designed by late Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi (1852–1926) greets visitors with this sculpture of the nativity on the front of the church (and a cubist view of the crucifixion above the rear entrance). I particularly like the curious donkey which is peering around the corner of the manger to see what all the fuss is about.

I’m with you – we sometimes use the zoom lens as a telescope – even when we’re not interested in taking a picture 😉

I’ve done the same thing with my camera, too.

I always love looking at photos of Gaudi buildings…hopefully I’ll see it in person some day 🙂

I’m down to a tiny digital camera after years of using a zoom lens. I miss getting great close-up shots like this as a result.

Great detail. Every time I leave my long zoom at home I kick myself. Someday I’ll learn to just suck it up and carry the weight!

Good shot. Gaudi certainly went into drama and detail.

I love the stained glass peeking out at the very top of the image—it seems to accentuate the rest of the photo. Beautiful …

I just got a new camera and hopefully will be able to capture shots like this. Although in Guatemala they don’t get to be this intricate, more simple and basic.

I loved all the Gaudi places in Barcelona – and La Pedrera with all those twisted chimneys too. You caught the detail nicely – sometimes it is worth carrying around a bigger camera with a decent lens but I’ll still stick to my small camera.

I bring my zoom lens with me everywhere I go, but I often forget to put it on my camera while I am taking pictures! I need to remember it more!

This was shot with my old Minolta film camera but these days I carry a Canon S5 camera (http://budurl.com/cqql) which is not that heavy. It also fits in a camera bag with my video camera. I have an SLR but have not brought it overseas yet because of the bulk.
