Parliament - London, England

The familiar site of the Parliament buildings in London, England. This shot is taken from across the Themes on the London Eye. Parliament is right on the Themes.

On 30 June 1858, panic broke out in the House of Commons. The cause was ‘the great stink’, arising off the Thames. The windows of the Houses of Parliament had to be hung with sheets soaked in chloride of lime, and tons of lime were daily dumped into the river. The stench forced the House to adjourn. – from London in the 15th century

This and the 10,000 deaths from cholera finally got parliament to act and fund a sewage system for London.
