Chania is a beautiful city on the island of Crete in Greece whose tourism brochure undoubtedly uses terms like “sun-drenched”. It may be cliché but it is also true. We visited Chania in late Spring and experienced the sort of weather where you did not want to be spending time inside. Chania spills out into its streets, sidewalks and harbor with sidewalk cafes.

Sidewalk cafes are one of my favorite subjects for photographs. It might because I grew up in Salinas, California which is near enough to the coast in central California that the fog would cool off the city every night and sitting out at a cafe in the evening was not particularly attractive.

Just looking at some of these pictures starts to make my mouth water for a good plate of souvlaki or moussaka. Of course fans of seafood will probably want to try the fish of the day instead.

These cafes fill up in the warm evenings but just sit waiting for patrons in the afternoon when these pictures were taken. Can you see yourself here?
