Tarantula - Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, Costa Rica - Photo

Our guide at the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve in Costa Rica took a small stick and enticed a tarantula out of on of the many small holes we had been blissfully walking by. There are times I wish I could unknown something. This was one of those times.

Now I wish I could unsee that photo. Giant spiders … ugh. One viewing of Arachnophobia as a kid at the cinema and that was the end of my relationship with spiders. I think I’d be buying the biggest boots I could find before heading back into the jungles of Costa Rica

When we got to the Nicoya Peninsula we would see 20-30 8 legged creatures with this coloring when we would drive the dirt road by our hotel into town. We later decided they were probably crabs. Same size, same number of legs, much less ick.

Another giant spider! Wao. The last time I saw a giant spider was 18 years ago. I was terrified and my father had to drag me away and said it has a very poisionous venom. Is that really true?

The last time we saw a tarantula was in the amazon. This picture you caught is amazing. Very clear and close. Love it! We didn’t see any when we were in Monteverde but that’s probably because I got food poisoning and was stick in the room for days.

Fortunately I have a good zoom lens, so I did not have to too close to the tarántula.

Thats a video of one we saw walking about monteverde as well.  It was our honeymoon and we considered ourselves lucky to see one during the day.

My wife didnt think we were lucky either when the spider fell and ran toward the group to get away quickly.  I have never seen so many people move so fast in my life.
