Tartiflette – Potato Goodness – Geneva, Switzerland

categories: europe travel

If you visit Geneva in the winter time, and especially if you visit during the Escalade festival the weather will be cold and you will be looking for something to warm your belly. Tartiflette is a potato dish similar to scalloped potatoes and ham that will work very nicely as a belly warmer. We found outdoor booths with large metal kettles simmering slowly and smelling wonderfully of cheese, ham and onions. This is a winter food from the land of melted cheese that will put a smile on your face. Can you say comfort food?

I KNOW that would be good!

Not a thing wrong with comfort food! Tartiflette sounds perfect for those cold evenings.

Hi Chris, mmm tartiflette. Definitely agree this is good comfort food. We sampled tartiflette pizza and also crepes in Avoriaz recently, where they use generous amounts of the local raclette cheese. The carb/meat/cheese combo is ideal to keep you going on the slopes throughout the day, though after a while we found ourselves craving salad and fruit, and generally something less stodgy. There is only so much cheese and meat one can take! πŸ™‚

In most Swiss ski resorts you will come across a sticker with “in tartiflette we trust”. It is the perfect lunch with a green salad.
