Hobbit Hole at Hobbiton Movie Set - Matamata, New Zealand - Photo

In July of 2010 I took a tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set outside of Matamata, New Zealand. I was not allowed until now to put these photos on the internet. This is the same set that was used for the Lord of the Rings movies. It was supposed to be destroyed but rains put off the destruction long enough for the sheep rancher who owned the land to get permission to give tours so long as the hobbit holes lost most of their set dressing. So crews were working feverishly when I was there putting all the set dressing back into place in preparation for filming.

Will be passing close to there on our five week jaunt around New Zealand in October. Don’t know if we’ll get a chance to stop. Thanks for the picture!
