Botswana Safari – Episode 639

Hear about travel to Botswana on safari as I, the Amateur Traveler, relates stories from his recent experience on a mobile safari in Botswana’s Okavango Delta and a Safari Camp experience in the Kalahari desert on a press trip with Botswana Trek.

I spent 6 nights in the Okavango Delta at two different campsites on a mobile safari with Royale Wilderness. We spent 3 nights in the Khwai Concession (with visits to Chobe National Park) and 3 nights in the Moremi Game Reserve. The Okavango is an unusual inland delta where the rivers from the Angolan highlands drain into the desert sands of Botswana. It is teeming with life including elephants, wildebeests, zebras, impalas, lions, leopards, crocodiles, hippos, hyenas, civets, African wild dogs, and 450 bird species.

This special episode is recorded mostly on location. It includes some accounts of encounters with elephants, amazing experiences with African wild dogs on the hunt, and some unexpected encounters with lions… including one that demanded with its presence near the camp to be included in the podcast.

I also spent 2 nights in Jack’s Camp which is a luxury safari camp in the Kalahari desert. We took a walk with Kalahari bushmen, took game drives to see the local wildlife, saw a salt flat the size of Switzerland, and ended up with a meerkat on my head.
