The Amateur Traveler talks to Corinne from Have Baby Will Travel who is a life-long Torontonian (that is to say that she lives in Toronto, Ontario).
Corinne gives us an introduction to her city and its many parks, its great ethnic food, its iconic skyline punctuated by the CN Tower. Its neighborhoods include two different Chinatowns, Greektown, the Irish-influenced Cabbagetown, Distillery District, Kensington Market, Harbourfront and St. Lawrence Market, She particularly suggests you visit during Thanksgiving (Canada’s which is in October) or Toronto International Film Festival. Corinne also describes side trips from the city heading out towards Niagra and Ontario’s wine country. The city houses both a working farm in Riverdale Farms and a warren of underground shops in the Toronto Underground PATH.

Hey Chris nice episode on Toronto. since my wife is from there I have been there at least 10 times. I was laughing at the part about her getting lost on the Path system. My wife probably thinks the same thing. For those who really want to get around it you can get maps for the PATH system. Like your guest says there are tons of festivals there. My favorite is probably Caribana the largest or second largest Caribbean festival (debate with the one in Brooklyn on Labor Day) in North America which happens the first week in August. And I haven’t been to it but my wife raves about the Beaches Jazz festival on the eastern side of town which happens in July.

For years I thought that Toronto was a great place to live ( I’m from here ). But, why would anyone visit?
You show me the error in my ways!
From now on, I will be a much better tour guide when friends come to town!

Finally a show on my birthplace and former haunt. Funnily enough, I lived there when Chris interviewed me for the Kingston, ON show (AT # 87). Chris, if you want to do a future show on Ottawa, ON, my current haunt, let me know.
Corinne forgot to mention the traffic! If you’re only downtown it’s not an issue, but it in-part “drove” me away to a smaller city. The Hwy 401 at Toronto is the busiest highway in North America since it’s the trucking corridor of the province. Rush hour is not one, but three hours twice a day as the suburbs empty and fill. A beautiful example of a good day http://goo.gl/maps/blP8
Nonetheless, a good show Chris!

Hello Chris. Enjoying your focus on Toronto…podcast and photo of the day. I am originally from southern Ontario and I agree, June is a good month to visit TO…as are all the other months of the year except maybe January and February. Thanks for the “trip home”.
