The Amateur Traveler talks to Chuck Prevatte about vacationing in the warm waters and on the white beaches of the panhandle of Florida. This is a vacation for those who want to slow down and relax.
There are nightclubs in Panama City and water parks but this part of Florida is a good spot to take the family, eat some good seafood, rent a beach house and bath in 90-degree water. Tourism is off because of the gulf oil spill but Chuck and his family did not see much evidence of the oil on the beaches.

Yo AT!
I listen to many of your Podcasts to get background info for my next global trek. Thanks! It was refreshing to hear your Podcast on my own stomping grounds these days, the Florida Gulf Coast. It’s far too easy to forget how great a place I live myself, and that it is a tourist destination.
Chuck Prevatte does capture the gist of it all here. He’s off on a couple points (such as the fairly accessible airports PNS & VPS), misses a few more, but overall he & you capture it well. I’ve forwarded the show to a great number of my friends to describe my home of 6 years now, originally coming from Cali as you are.
Cheers, thanks again, and Bon Voyage!

Love reading travel blogs about Florida but Podcasts are even better. I’m planning a visit to Miami next month for golfing and the nightlife. Was just looking for some information on the great Miami steak houses and ended up here. Thanks for all the tips.
