Oregon Coast Road Trip (Podcast)

Hear about an Oregon Coast road trip as the Amateur Traveler talks to Jessica Baker from BoundlessBakers.com about a portion of their year and a half long road trip.

Jessica says, “My family and I have been traveling in an RV for the past 13 months. So we have seen quite a bit of the country and probably our favorite stop so far, where we spent 12 weeks, was the Oregon Coast. The number one reason to go to the Oregon coast is that it is absolutely gorgeous. The Oregon coast is one of the most unique and most beautiful areas that we’ve seen. Just the natural beauty of it. It truly is where the forest meets the sea.”

Newport Oregon

We start in Astoria and head south towards the California border. Astoria is where Lewis and Clark reached the Pacific Ocean. At the Lewis and Clark National and State Historical Parks, you can visit the recreated Fort Clatsop. Or you can climb the Astoria Tower and throw off a small wooden plane which you can buy there.

Much of the rest of the trip is various beaches, start parks and hikes including Ecola State Park, Cannon Beach, Hug Point State Recreation Site, Fogarty Creek State Recreation Area, and Cape Blanco State Park. You will see sea stacks, tide pools, agate beaches, concretions and blowholes like Thor’s Well. We talk about the best beaches, the best hikes and the best places to park your RV.

Further down the coast is the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area where you can get out on a dune-buggy tour or an ATV. Down near the California border at Gold Beach, you can hop on a jet boat up the wild Rogue River.

Take a listen to this episode and then plan a trip to get lost in the fog on family beach vacation on the Oregon Coast.

This is one of my favorite episodes. I am an amateur photographer and live an hour from Florence. My favorite time for photography and beach walking is sunrise at low tide. My website: http://www.postcardfromoregon.com
