Travel to Scotland – Episode 166
categories: europe travelThe Amateur Traveler talks to Eden (an ambassador for Macallan Whisky) about his home country of Scotland.
Eden lays out a tour for Amateur Traveler listeners that starts in Edinburgh with its castle, royal mile, and pubs and continues up to St Andrews (the home of golf) and the castles of Perthshire.
We make sure to stop on the Whiskey Trail of Speyside before continuing to the rugged countryside of the highlands. We also talk about special events, famous Scotsmen and haggis.

Is there going to be a podcast on minority solo travelers’ experiences?

AT, just a wee nitpick about the blurb . . . Please make it whisky (whiskey is the Irish tipple); St Andrews, not Saint Andrews; and haggis, not hagis. It would be a braw thing, too, if you were to accord famous scotsmen a capital S.

Wow, that’s a lot of errors in one post. Thanks so much for your help Bill.

For Kathleen, I would recommend looking into purchasing a single round-the-world ticket. United has one with their Star Alliance partners, and American Airlines has another with their One World partners. When we did our round-the-world trip (see the website link above), we used the United ticket. However beware of the price for the ticket based on where you purchase the ticket. We saved half the cost of the ticket just by buying it so in New Zealand versus buying it in the USA. It would have been $5000 per person if we bought the ticket here, but it was $2500 per person buying it in NZ (including currency conversion). So we flew to New Zealand on airline miles, and then started the Round The World ticket.
You get the ticket from a travel agent. Many sites online can help you with it.

Have you ever taken some time to explore the Isle of Skye? I just did a small piece on it. This is the best time of year to go (May-July) so I missed the boat this year, but I am taking my son on his first international trip there in May 2014. Am unforgettable place for sure π

Grant, I depends if they have a cashier or if they have an automated kiosk. The later will cause you some problems.
