The Amateur Traveler talks to Spencer Quong who is an adventure travel guide about his recent trip to Botswana in south-central Africa.
After reading the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency his traveling companions were drawn to this country and its incredible wildlife. Spencer took a week-long kayaking tour in the Okavango Delta in Northern Botswana, kayaking among the crocodiles and hippos, followed by a week-long and more traditional land safari. He describes camping out on the veld and hearing the sound of lions in the not so distant distance and we will, therefore, categorize this trip as adventure travel. “There is a law of the Delta that once you step foot in the Delta you are part of the food chain and you are not necessarily on the top.”

My husband and I both laughed out loud at your reticence to become part of the great circle of life while camping in Africa, Chris. Exactly.
