Travel to Langkawi Malaysia – Episode 625
categories: asia travel
Hear about travel to Langkawi Malaysia as the Amateur Traveler talks to Rod Sanchez from The Jetsetting Family Travel Podcast at thejetsettingfamily.com about this island paradise.
I had not heard of Langkawi when Rob pitched a show on the region. Rod says of Langkawi, “We also didn’t know very much about it. We have been seeing some other families that travel around, and we saw that they visited Langkawi. We fell in love with the island because it has a very calm vibe to it. The locals call it the jewel of Kedah. Kedah is one of the states in Malaysia. We consider it very similar to Maui, so we call it the Maui of Malaysia.”
You can fly to Langkawi or take the Langkawi Roro, a fast and convenient service between Kuala Perlis and Langkawi.
Langkawi is a small island. You can rent a car and get from one end to the other in under an hour, but it is a biodiverse island. There are beautiful white-sand beaches, mountain ranges with cable cars that offer rides to the top, and mangrove and geoforest parks featuring stunning limestone formations, but the area is not yet heavily crowded with tourists.
Rod and his family have been traveling full-time for 3 months, and, so far, this is one of their top two destinations.
The Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park features a cable car, known as the Sky Cab, that transports visitors up the mountain. It is the world’s steepest cable car, but the mountain has great views and a sky bridge. It is a UNESCO Global Geopark, one of three on the island.
In the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park, you can charter a boat to explore the mangroves, towering karst formations, and bat caves. The park also features eagles, monkeys, and private beaches.
The 3rd park is the Dayang Bunting Geoforest Park, which is well known for the Pregnant Maiden lake, which is reputed to be good for fertility.
We also discuss an Oriental shopping village and a 3D art museum, which is popular among Instagrammers.
When you are done with all the parks and activities, you are still on a tropical island with white sand beaches where you can lay on the beach and drink fruity drinks at high-end resorts or less expensive accommodations.
