This was a pretty nice show, but your expert seemed to leave out a lot of cool details about the Outer Banks. For instance. on Roanoke Island, you’ll find one of the NC state aquariums. And there’s a lot of history to be seen on the island besides just “The Lost Colony” — for instance, there’s the Elizabeth II, which is a replica of the type of ships used in early colonization.
I was rather surprised that all of the talk of the Outer Banks stopped at Roanoke Island. The chain of barrier islands extends down to Hatteras and Okracoke… Not sure if the Chamber of Commerce accepts them being included in chats about the Banks, but there is certainly a LOT of great stuff to consider checking out along the way.
And don’t forget that at the south end of the island chain is some of the best Scuba diving in the world, in the Graveyard of the Atlantic. At least, it’s great diving in the late summer when the water warms up. 🙂

Can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this. I made a trip to the Outer Banks a few years back, and totally fell in love with the area. I ended up in Okracoke, and it is just about my idea of paradise. If I could live anywhere of my choice that would be it, but as a European I can’t :=( But I will definitely be back there one day for a much longer stay.
