Travel to the Great Bear Rainforest, British Columbia (Podcast)

Hear about travel to the Great Bear Rainforest in British Columbia as the Amateur Traveler talks to award-winning photographer Susan Portnoy from theinsatiabletraveler.com about her visit to this remote and beautiful corner of Canada.

Susan says, “It’s about the size of Ireland and it is absolutely exquisite. If you are into nature and into wildlife, this should be at the top of your list. It is an unbelievable place. There are waterfalls. There are coastal beaches. There are wolves There are bears. There are so many whales. It’s this wonderland. When you wake up in the morning because it is a rain forest quite often it’s foggy and drizzly a little bit and you get this beautiful moody fog and you know hanging on the forest trees. It’s just exquisite. I was with Maple Leaf Adventures on a 12 person catamaran. The thing about the Great Bear rainforest is that the channels are smaller and so and they’re not interested in having big boats. It helps to be able to navigate all the nooks and crannies and see great things.”

“Each night the captain drops anchor in a beautifully you know romantic visual, you know, coast somewhere that you know, you just sit there and think of this is postcard material. And in the morning you wake up you have a little snack, you pile into two different tenders that hold 10 people each and you go off and explore. The guides have a sense of where they are obviously and what’s interesting.”

Susan describes a trip filled with watching whales feed, ghost bears, bears, sea lions, and more.
