Travel to Wyoming – Episode 659
categories: USA TravelHear about travel to Wyoming’s national parks, state parks, and tourist sites as the Amateur Traveler talks to Jennifer Melroy from nationalparkobsessed.com about her love for the state.
We talk about the popular upper left corner of Wyoming with Yellowstone and Grand Tetons nation parks, but first, we talk about places to see elsewhere in the state which Jennifer says we should not skip.
She suggests a 5-day itinerary for the rest of the state including Devils Tower, Fort Laramie National Historic Site, Vedauwoo Recreation Area, Killpecker Sand Dunes, and Fossil Butte National Monument.
Along the way, we will stop at rocks with graffiti from pioneers on the Oregon Trail, an old west fort, an outlaw hideout, a giant head of Abraham Lincoln, and at least one steak house.
Some sites in Wyoming you may recognize from movies:
- Devils Tower – Close Encounters of the Third Kind
- Hole-in-the-Wall – Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
- Hell’s Half Acre – Starship Troopers
Tourists, like movie makers, are drawn to the wide-open plains of Wyoming, the badlands, huge sand dunes, the box canyons, the basalt columns, the jagged mountains, the wildlife, and of course the geysers.
Yellowstone National Park has more than 500 active geysers (more than half the world’s geysers), the beautiful Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, and wildlife that includes bears, bison, moose (more in the Tetons these days) and wolves. Grand Tetons National Park has beautiful rugged mountains. Jennifer gives us some tips on how to spend a couple of days in the Tetons and Yellowstone if you are pressed for time.
Come see the popular and the out-of-the-way places that deserve your attention in Wyoming.
