The Amateur Traveler talks to Roni Weiss about his visit to the divided country of Cyprus.
Roni went to Cyprus in part to complete a quest to visit every country in Europe. Roni couchsurfed which gave him a chance to stay with Turkish and Greek Cypriots as well as a Turkish resident.
This former British Colony still has a strong British culture in parts and still gets lots of British tourists because of the lovely beaches. The island also has even longer Greek and Turkish roots. It is part of Europe but part of the middle east. He visited North Cyprus via a ferry from Turkey to Kyrenia with its 16th-century Venetian castle and visited Famagusta on the East coast with its cathedral turned mosque.
Roni then crossed over to Southern Cyprus at the divided capital city of Nicosia. He visited the ancient city of Limassol and the resort area of Larnaca.

eileen and i have been to cyprus a few times over the years, even stayed there
over christmas when we took the overnight ferry to haifa, then onto tel avive
lunch in jerusalem then on to bethlehem.we only took that trip because we were
told that not much would be happening in limmasol christmas day,we wouldnt
do that trip again as it is too tiring,we have had good holidays in cyprus with
many lovely places to visit.we would allways recommend a holiday there.
