Visit Buckingham Palace with the Amateur Traveler: This video shows the palace in the quiet before the crowds arrive to watch the changing of the guard. It also shows you a good location to position yourself to have the best views and then shows the actual changing of the guard.

If you are traveling to London then be aware that Changing the Guard does not happen every day. During the Summer it is daily but off-season it happens every other day. There is no ceremony on days with “very wet weather”.

For a much more spectacular event try and be in London for the Trooping the Colour which celebrates the Queen’s official birthday. In this ceremony they shut down the whole Pall Mall and all of the regiments take part. On the two Saturdays before the event they do a rehearsal which has all the same soldiers and participants except the queen. In 2010 The Queen’s Birthday Parade will be held on Saturday 12th June.
