The Amateur Traveler talks to Madeline Jhawar from Italy Beyond the Obvious about life as a tour guide for an adventure travel company.
Madeline was previously on the Amateur Traveler talking about Travel to Sicily.
Madeline talks about her misconceptions about what being a tour guide would be like and the reality of keeping a group of people happy (and not lost). She guided hiking and biking tours primarily in Italy. What skills do you need to be a successful tour guide? It might not be what you think.

The Rhine cruise sounds interesting, but I’m sure it’ll cost more than Vietnam…

Also, since you want people to join the mailing list there should be a link, button or box on the site inviting us to do just that

We ended up deciding on Egypt in November. I will get out the details soon, but it is less expensive for one option than Vietnam.

There is a link to get on the mailing list under the “subscribe for free”, too subtle then?

Oh, I always thought that was about subscribing to the podcast only. Yes it is too subtle – your podcast is the primary product of this site, after all!

Yes, the big reason that we will have a cheaper option for Egypt is we are working to choose options to keep the cost down because of what we learned with the Vietnam tour.
